A Journey to the Future of Natural Corridors

The three women continued their journey, disembarking from the trolley bus and heading towards their next destination. As they walked, they noticed the vast expanse of the western plains stretching out before them. These lands were now being claimed by new settlers, marked by wire fences and the gradual expansion of roads, buildings, and livestock.

Through the window of the tram, the women observed a continuous stretch of green amidst the otherwise weedy plains. This greenway cut across the road, the creek, and the river, leading to the heart of the plain Intrigued, they decided to follow the path and see where it would take them. The tram moved slowly, the passengers maintaining silence to fully immerse themselves in the experience. In the distance, they spotted a possum cautiously venturing away from the fence that marked its territory. The trolley continued along the greenway until it reached its stop. As they stepped off, the air became fi lled with the joyful sounds of children playing nearby.

The area they had arrived in was a clearing, where the endangered grass frog thrived amidst waterside plants and low rocks. The once-barren land, which had not long ago been devoid of life, now showcased the beauty of ecological art and restoration, serving as a habitat for the golden butterfly and other species. The nearby carved roads bore the imprints of bicycle tires, symbolizing the shared space between humanity and nature.
Leaving the clearing behind, the women decided to explore further. As they ventured deeper into the plain, they noticed a tunnel-like structure that seemed to appear out of nowhere. Curiosity piqued, they followed the greenway that extended from the tunnel. Glancing back, one of the women caught a glimpse of a fleeting dark shadow disappearing into the grass.

Just then, a train bound for Melbourne passed in front of them, its tracks disappearing into the distance. They continued walking and eventual arrived at a parking area. Walking through the corridor, they passed a man returning his bike.
