EPHEMERA“Ephemera are transitory creations which are not meant to be retained or preserved. Its etymological origins extend to Ancient Greece, with the common definition of the word being: the minor transient documents of everyday life.”
PROPOSAL
Moments and memories, crossing paths with ecology, geology, astrology, and, most intrinsically, the ground.
The spaces of recreation and play in contact with the line, and conditions of memory of the landscape as well as future restoration with the landscape. The field, the social nature, is the means of re-connecting people, outdoor leisure, and ownership of the Western Plains.
The Line is a trajectory unbound by time and a medium of public space in the landscape for people to transport to and from the Western Plains. It permeates into the field, an envelope, an interior extension, materially responding to the ground conditions.
Designed to exact a temporal experience within the Grassland fields; what makes these moments of play actively intertwined with deep time, yet unbound by time itself, is their immediate dialogue with the strange and the deep dynamics of nature’s conditions: wet ground, soft texture, natural forms of rock.
Our sheds are constantly conversing with the landscape and those who occupy the spaces at any given time. The idea of the ephemeral informs our critique of permanency in the realm of public use structures. Our sheds live to serve the community. The lightweight construction of the tensile tent facilitates the opening and closing and allows it to be reshaped or relocated.
